About the Teacher
MaryEllen Free

I have always had a passion for color and beauty, and enjoyed the exploration of all art forms since I was a child. Including acrylic painting, soft pastel, photography, pottery, and silversmithing. I received a Fine Arts Degree from George Mason University where I studied painting, graphic design, and 3-dimensional art. I started out as a Computer Illustrator and Graphic Designer. After many years in this profession, I decided to go back to my fine arts routes and reengaged in painting and creating pottery.
Our Goal
It is my goal to teach you how to express your ideas in clay. Learning a new discipline takes time and practice. I strive to make this process easy and enjoyable. Please come and take this opportunity to share the love of art with each other and create beautiful works of art as well as functional pieces in clay.

Our Classes
Hand Building
Classes are once a week for four weeks. Each class is limited to 6 students. This class will allow you to learn how to create functional pieces using the slab roller. You will learn studio safety and how to use the equipment and tools. You can choose three projects out of this selection: coffee cup, butter dish, bowl, platter, plate. You will learn how to assemble these items as well as how to decorate them using creative texture techniques, stamping, carving and sgraffito.
Studio Time
Studio Access is $15.00 per hour (in half hour increments). Active students are welcome to use this time to practice and create on the wheel or to decorate on the table using studio tools, stamps, rollers and glazes. Studio Access is available by walk in or reservation. Reservations may be made no more than three days in advance. If you do make a reservation, the full payment for the time blocked is expected, unless the reservation is canceled no less than 24 hours ahead of time. You may call me or text me to make a reservation. You are welcome to call me prior to walking in to verify availability.
